It is nice to know that you have someone on your side if you live in an area where hurricanes are prominent.
People with licensed radio transmitters in vehicles often tip off the National Weather Service to weather that may be severe and cost lives. They verify what forcasters see on their screens.
It is the mission of programs like SKYWARN to alert the National Weather Service of severe weather while it is happening in order to save lives.
